Our  Solar System is made up of all the planets that orbit our Sun. Everything in the Solar System orbits or revolves around the Sun. The Solar System also consists of moons, comets, asteroids, minor planets, and dust and gas.

HOW MANY PLANETS ARE IN OUR SOLAR SYSTEM??

THE PLANETS

Mercury:
Mercury is the closest planet to our Sun.
Mercury is also the smallest planet in our Solar System. Mercury has a solid, cratered surface, and looks much like Earth’s moon.

Venus:
Venus is the second closest planet to our sun and the solar systems HOTTEST planet. Venus has no moons and spins backwards compared to the other planets. This means that the sun rises in the west and sets in the east on Venus.

Earth:  Earth is the only planet in our Solar System that supports life. Earth is the third from the our Sun. 70 percent of the Earth’s surface is covered in oceans and Earth has one moon.

Mars: Mars is fourth from the Sun. It is also known as “the Red Planet” because of its reddish tint. Mars has volcanoes, valleys, deserts, and polar ice caps. Mars has two moons.

Jupiter: Jupiter is the fifth planet from the Sun. Jupiter is the most massive planet in our Solar System. It is 317 times the mass of Earth. It is mostly made up of hydrogen and helium. Jupiter’s atmosphere is the most intense in the Solar System and has some of the worst storms.

Saturn: Saturn is the sixth planet from the Sun. Like Jupiter, Saturn is made up of gases.  Saturn is most famous and most easily recognized for its ring system, which is made of seven rings. Saturn has 53 moons.

Uranus: Uranus is seventh from the Sun. Uranus is the coldest planet in our solar system. Most of the planet’s mass is made up of a hot dense fluid of “icy” materials, which make it blue. Uranus has 27 moons and has rings; the inner rings are narrow and dark and the outer rings are brightly colored

Neptune: Neptune is the eighth and smallest planet from the Sun. Neptune can't been seen with your own eye since it is so far. It has 13 moons and 6 rings. Its is made up of gases and very cold like Uranus.
